A trip to remember

Since writing my first blog I have recieved many requests to write about the difference between Finland and Poland.

There are some very big differnces. I thought the weather would be a little warmer here than in Finland but after this week I can see that it is not with the snow and cold. The fans in Finland are not as passionate about basketball as they are here in Poland. For ex&le if you watched are game yesterday with Gdynia we had a number of great Slask fans that made the 9 hour trip just for the game and that was after an unbelievable atmoshphere in Orbita a week ago against Anwil.

Basketball is about the 3rd or 4th most popular sport in Finland with Ice hockey being number 1. The culture and people are very different in the two places as well. Finland people are mostly to themselves and do not like to show emotion where Polish people are open, friendly and willing to help you out in anyway they can. My wife and I like both places they each are nice in their own way, just different.

This last week caoch Urlep gave us a day off!!!! We had 9 days in between games so we had Wednesday off to do whatever we wanted. So, my wife and I along with Artur Mielczarek, Oliver Stevic and his girlfriend made a 3 hour trip to visit Auschwitz! I have always enjoyed history and once I found out that I would be going to Poland I made it a point to get there and see this place. It was a truly unbelievable experience. There were points in tourning the place that I wanted to cry for those people and other times where I wanted to fight for them. The people at Auschwitz have done a great job of preserving the buildings and exhibits for everyone to be able to see them. I am sure most Polish people have visited there at some point in their life but if you have not I strongly recommend taking a visit. It suddenly made me realize coach Urlep's practices are not so hard.

Finally, for the league it is truly crazy this season. With Polonia beating Sopot last week and trying to win on the road is very difficult. I am sure many of you watched the game yesterday against Gdynia. We did not play well at all but somehow found a way to win. I guess that is what you have to do sometimes when you do not play well. I look forward to seeing all the Slask fans in Orbita on saturday. Have a great week and until next time.
